This seminar is an introductory course to the study of literature, designed to set up the base of our teacher training programme. The focus will be on realizing, practicing and implementing the skills and knowledge (and some theory) necessary to understand how literature has remained a part of human cultural awareness and how it can be applied not only in language learning, but also in the acquisition of humanistic values.

This course provides the students with an opportunity to study and discuss culturally relevant themes as presented in contemporary works of popular culture.

The course offers a survey of the principal authors and works of the 17ththrough to the 19th ct. in North America. Emphasis will be placed on a close reading of the selected texts and understanding of related issues – not only literary, but also historical, social, political and economic.
